My sister in law prepared the Harvest table for a wedding they attended in South Africa. She is originally from Belgium, and share my enjoyment and passion for good food.
For me, this was such an experience since we as South African’s can be so linear thinking and adhere to the rules. Like if you do a cheese platter, it is cheese. On this table, it was everything as far as your mind could imagine it. It is true what they say, art has no rules, and that applies to food too.
On this Harvest Table, you could find the freshest produce and food local to South Africa. There were exquisite cheeses and condiments from the well-know wine farm Fairview. Fairview offers a delicious range of cheeses and wine. It is located in the Western Cape, close to Paarl. If you never stopped there, it is undoubtedly something you will enjoy.
Freshly baked bread, fresh fruit, nuts, and a selection of different sweeties were all scattered around the table. (Rumor had it the bride liked the gummy candies). I must mention this was an undeniable crowd-pleaser. The Harvest Table also served as the first course of the wedding menu.
And of course, you can’t miss the biltong and dry wors between all the goodness that made it that extra special. Amazing how food can bring together friends and family, but also continents. Belgium, France, and South Africa on a table. Delicious.
